Saint-Florent-Le-Vieil and its Abbey

A very important site in the Vendée wars, this ‘Petite Cité de Character’ (Small Town full of Character) is easily identifiable by its Abbey. Perched on the top of Mont Glonne, this edifice bears witness to the pardon of General Bonchamps, sculpted by David d’Angers. Its esplanade offers one of the most beautiful panoramas over the Loire Valley.

The Banks of the Evre

The Evre, a tributary of the Loire, is magnificently described in Julien Gracq’s work, "Les Eaux Etroites" (The Narrow Waters): "The thick vegetation of its banks, the narrowness of its path, the blackness of its shadow-swallowing water".

Liré

“I prefer my Little Liré to the Mont Palatin, and the sea air can’t compare to the good life Angevin”: here in his home town, discover the work of Joachim du Bellay at the museum bearing his name, which is in a Renaissance mansion house.
