Angers station - Bouchemaine Val de Loire

Logo Loire à Vélo

Leaving behind Angers and its castle – a unique fortress in Val de Loire, and home to the world’s biggest collection of medieval tapestry, cycle along the banks of the Maine and snake around Lac de Maine, exploring the Basses Vallées Angevines wetlands at close quarters. These floodplains provide an ideal environment for birds, and are part of the Natura 2000 network of protected areas.

Angers, city of Art and History

Awarded the Ville d'Art and d’Histoirelabel, Angers, capital city of Anjou, will amaze you with the wealth of a thousand and one heritage treasures. Its castle, which belonged to ‘Good King René ‘, is visited primarily for its magisterial Tapestry of the Apocalypse and its unobstructed view over Angers from the height (30 metres) of its 17 towers. And don’t miss out on exploring the city between the castle and the Saint-Maurice Cathedral.

The Balzac d’Angers park

This pathway along the Maine and through the city centre, was inspired by the Poitevin Marsh; it offers nature-lovers the chance to stroll through the heart of a nature reserve of untold ecological richness.

Parc de Loisirs du Lac de Maine d’Angers

Just a few min. bike-ride from the castle, you’ll find 200 hectares of lush greenery and water dedicated to the natural world, leisure activities and relaxation. An exceptional spot, very much appreciated by the local population.

Bouchemaine and La Pointe

Oriented, as it has been for hundreds of years, towards the river and its tributary, Bouchemaine - with its town on the banks of the Maine and its village at the Pointe - has been a popular fresh-air destination for Angevins since the last century.
